ALive
The goal of the ALive program is “to improve the contribution of the livestock sector for poverty reduction and to promote equitable, safe and sustainable economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa”. This goal and the related activities support the wider objectives of the African Union’s Directorate for Rural Economy and Agriculture (AU/DREA), NEPAD’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme for livestock (CAADP 2) and particularly the livestock development strategies of DREA’s specialist body, IBAR. The IGAD LPI is a part of the ALive platform, with which it shares many objectives in common. ALive sits as an observer on the Steering Committee of the IGAD LPI and collaborates directly through some of its projects, such as the joint (with PPLPI) development of PRSP guidelines, which will be taken up by the IGAD LPI, and more generally through its broad involvement in livestock policy development in the region.
